Family Business

Corporate advisors, Asia and Australia.

Family businesses are a critical part of the Australian economy. According to Family Business Australia, family owned and managed businesses account for around 70% of all Australian businesses, employing 50% of the workforce.

In Asia, the recent Credit Suisse "Emerging Market Research Institute – Asian Family Businesses Report 2011", family businesses in the region equate to 34% of the nominal GDP. There is a higher concentration of family businesses in South Asia, which makes up 65% of the total number of listed companies.

Family business is different from other enterprises as typically management and full or majority ownership rests with one or more family members of the one family.

AFG Venture Group understands the dynamic of family business and assists such businesses in the following ways:

  • Creating the plans needed for smooth and successful succession, well in advance of the planned exit or transition dates
  • Improving sustainability of the business, so business can show year on year growth
  • Processes that assist the business to become sale, investment or exit ready
  • Undertaking transactions that create exits for existing owners via mergers, sales and other forms of divestment such as buyouts and buyins. Counterparties for exits will depend on the size of the business, the underlying financial performance, the industry outlook, the competitive advantages and the exit requirements of the owners

AFG Venture Group believes that succession planning is critical to not only creating a valuable exit for the current owners, but is a key part of running and growing a successful family business. Wealth management and wealth preservation for family members underpin much of the work AFG Venture Group undertakes.

We focus on partnering our clients to achieve the best outcomes possible.
